BORN FOR THE MAT by Keiko Fukuda - 1973 1st Edition

Keiko Fukuda is the highest-ranked female judo practitioner in history, holding the rank of 9th dan from both the Kodokan and the United States Judo Federation, and is the last surviving student of Jigoro Kano, founder of judo. She is a renowned pioneer of women's judo, being the first woman promoted to 6th dan (c. 1972), and later 9th dan (2006), by the Kodokan. After completing her formal education in Japan, Fukuda visited the United States of America to teach in the 1950s and 1960s and eventually settled there.

Keiko Fukuda would eventually become the foremost authority on jodo kata, touring and teaching worldwide and finally settling in San Francisco. She was a pioneer in judo teaching for women. In this book are chapters on the purposes of judo, keypoints of training, fundamentals, explanations of kata such as solo exercises, dual practice forms of gentleness, self defense, escape, aggressive defense, and much more.

As you can see from the pictures, this book is in excellent condition and is for sale by my Judo Sheehan, Prof. Ed Maley, (Hachidan 8th Dan). He has been the head of our school, The Florida School Of Judo since 1963. He was given this book by Keiko Fukuda herself and has been the sole owner of it since. If you have any questions about this listing, please contact me and I'll be happy to answer any questions that you may have.
